Henry Greener unregistered design #041 sugar bowl

A white opaque glass pedestal sugar bowl. 1st lion trademark (1875-1885) and RD lozenge for 31 August 1878.

Issued to commemorate Gladstone's second administration which began in May 1880. The same basic bowl design was used for the earlier commorative of the earl of Beaconsfield, hence the RD lozenge for 31 August 1878 plus the 1st lion TM. Medallion portrait of the Prime Ministerwithin laurel leaves and showing the emblematic symbols of roses, thisles and shamrock. The inscription reads'gladstone the liberal Champion. Peace, Retenchment and Reform' and below this 'May 1st 1880 and Premier of England'.
