Brockwitz 1941 Uranium Pressed Glass Floral Fruit Bowl 9093

A four-sided (square) fruit bowl in green uranium glass (which glows bright yellow-green under UV light) by BROCKWITZ of Germany, featured in their large 1941 catalogue as Fruchtschalen [fruit bowl] 5b No. 9093, 24 x 24cm (ref #149). The bowl stands approximately 12cm high, with a maximum width across the top of the sides of 23.7 x 23.7cm. Weight 1.725kg. The bowl stands on four foliate feet, hexagonal in section, and ground flat at the base. The bowl sides are slightly flared outwards from the bases, the top edges are shaped (and part-decorated with semicircular hollows), and each clear side is decorated with a diagonal frosted floral band with a triple ‘cut’ band above. The clear square base is decorated with triple diagonal ‘cuts’ with a clear square area at their intersection, and the four triangular areas formed between the ‘cuts’ and the sides are decorated with a floral motif at the outer edge. The decoration is entirely on the external surface of the bowl, and the moulding is beautifully crisp.
