Plate Etching
A plate etching is created using a tranfer that is made by filling the pattern in an etched copper or steel plate with an ink-like resist. That is then picked up on a special paper and tranferred to the glass. The paper is removed. The rest of the glass to remain unetched is coated in resist (often beeswax), and the item dipped in acid. On this piece you can clearly see where the seam in the pattern is; often it's not so obvious. The etching shown is Lotus Glass Co. Inc.'s #889 Grecian Gold.
