STUART CRYSTAL SUNDAE / GRAPEFRUIT GLASSES, RD 719538, 1926
|
Four Art Deco Stuart Crystal cut glass sundae / grapefruit glasses, acid etched on the underside of the foot with ‘Stuart | England’ and ‘Rd. 719538’ (allocated 9 March 1926). Each shallow bowl is in the classic Stratford rings shape, and is decorated with a simple criss-cross cut pattern just below the plain rim. The ‘saucer’ type foot has an upward curving rim which is decorated underneath with 8 pairs of radial cuts. The pontil mark is smoothed and slightly hollowed. Because of the hand-made nature of these dishes, the heights do vary slightly – two dishes are 5cm tall, and two are 5.5cm tall; all four dishes have top rim diameters of 9.2cm; weights vary between 190 and 214g.
