Genetics |
Beyond this window I catch yesterday's sweet breath: A moist haze blotching out the mirrror of my eyes. It's just the smoke of cigarettes Their debris: dust & ashes - Someone else's: cleared up years ago, Swept into a bin with blond curls & grey hair & worn out shoes, old suits: An in-fill site, an Oxfam store. The atoms of the past ingratiate themselves; Caesar & Napoleon &l Jack The Ripper Locked within us all - A surging current, sweeping up, Combining, mixing, stretching out The chromosones, the genes, Our actions caught inside a time-warp; All our dreams, another's; Our fears, dark nights of the past; Our passion, someone else's; Love, another's soft caress. Intelligence regresses, Synaps crack & sparkle With the vision of a long-dead Pope. The King of Ether breathes my breath, The Cyber-Queen clings tight inside my loins As I unearth the scrapyard capsule of my days: A copper bottle, rattle, tiny slipper ..... No seminar, no seance & no synagogue, I, clairvoyant, star-gazer, Dreamer of dark dreams, I, grief-maiden, madder than the mad. Morgal 6/12/98 |
