The Knights of Yore
In days of yore,
With knights galore
Fair ladies went a'courting.
In jewel-bright gowns -
Not blacks and browns -
To minstrel tunes cavorting.
At tournament
'Gainst warriors sent,
Their ladies favours bringing,
Whilst 'mongst the mass -
The time to pass -
The troubadours were singing.
The feast was laid,
And lutes were played
When knights returned from jousting.
In candle-light
The hall glowed bright -
The wild boar gently roasting.
With wine cups raised,
New heroes praised:
Their stories were retold,
Brave deeds, sharp swords,
Stout shields, proud words
Recall those knights of old.
